Dana White Frustrated by Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury Delay: “It Should Have Happened 10 Years Ago”

Dana White has admitted that his involvement in the long-awaited Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury heavyweight showdown has been limited to two key areas, while expressing growing frustration over the fight's continued uncertainty.

The Zuffa Boxing chief revealed that his role included helping secure the television and venue arrangements for the proposed blockbuster.

“We did the television deal and the venue deal,” White said following UFC 330.

Despite significant progress toward putting the two British heavyweight stars in the ring, the fight has yet to receive final approval from all sides. The matchup has been discussed for years, and reports of agreements being reached for a late-2026 meeting have only intensified anticipation.

Venue remains a major sticking point

One of the biggest obstacles concerns where the fight will take place. Joshua has reportedly agreed to a contract requiring the bout to be staged in the United Kingdom, while Fury's agreement does not contain the same restriction.

That difference has created a difficult situation for the parties involved. Turki Alalshikh and Netflix are understood to favor staging the event in the United States, with New York's Madison Square Garden emerging as the leading venue.

Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn, however, remain keen to hold the fight in Britain. The preference is understandable given Joshua and Fury's status as two of the country's biggest boxing stars and their long histories of fighting in front of British audiences.

Fury promoter Frank Warren recently indicated that the fight could depend on whether Joshua's team accepts the proposed American venue.

“The fight will happen. I’ve heard what Eddie’s said and they’re either going to agree to it [taking place in the US] or not.”

Warren added that failure to reach an agreement over the location could ultimately prevent the matchup from taking place.

White wants the fight made

White appears increasingly tired of the prolonged negotiations. While acknowledging the enormous financial incentive surrounding the matchup, he believes the essential question is much simpler: do Joshua and Fury actually want to fight each other?

“To make a fight, two guys have to want to fight. Period. End of story.”

White's comments reflect the frustration that has surrounded one of boxing's most anticipated heavyweight matchups. The former UFC boss also questioned why it has taken so long for Joshua and Fury to reach this point.

“The fight should have happened 10 years ago. Is it going to happen now? We’ll see.”

Joshua and Fury remain two of the most recognizable names in heavyweight boxing, making their potential meeting one of the sport's biggest commercial attractions. Whether the remaining contractual and venue issues can finally be resolved will determine if the long-awaited clash becomes reality.
