Osleys Iglesias Set to Face Oliver Zaren in Quebec This October

IBF super-middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias will return to the ring on October 8, when he takes on undefeated Danish contender Oliver Zaren at the Capitole in Quebec City.

Iglesias, a Cuban southpaw now based in Germany, enters the bout with a perfect 15-0 record, including 14 victories inside the distance. The championship matchup will be an all-southpaw affair, adding an interesting tactical element to the contest.

The undercard will also feature several notable matchups, including Wilkens Mathieu defending his NABF super-middleweight title against Vladimir Shishkin.

Iglesias Looks to Continue His Rise

Iglesias captured the vacant IBF super-middleweight championship in April with a unanimous decision victory over Pavel Silyagin. Before that, the hard-hitting Cuban scored a win over Shishkin, who will now return to action against Mathieu.

Known as “The Tornado,” Iglesias has quickly established himself as one of the division's most dangerous fighters. His combination of size, power and southpaw technique has helped him remain unbeaten while building an impressive knockout record.

Zaren presents a significant challenge. The Danish contender is 19-0-1 with eight knockouts and currently sits at No. 5 in the IBF rankings. He is trained by former Danish super-middleweight standout Mikkel Kessler and will be stepping into the biggest opportunity of his professional career.

“This fight is a dream come true for me, a dream I have cherished since childhood, and one that will ultimately come true with my victory,” Zaren said.

Zaren acknowledged Iglesias' physical advantages but made it clear that he has no intention of being intimidated when the two meet in Quebec.

“Osleys Iglesias is strong, tall, powerful, and I know he scares even the world’s elite… but not me, because I know my level. On October 8, I will not come to Québec as a visitor. I will come as a conqueror.”

Mathieu and Shishkin Meet for NABF Title

Wilkens Mathieu will also have a major opportunity at 168 pounds when the unbeaten prospect puts his 16-0 record and 11 knockouts on the line against Shishkin, who enters with a 17-2 record and 11 knockouts.

Mathieu believes a victory could put him on the same path as fighters who previously defeated Shishkin before going on to compete for world championships.

“After beating Vladimir Shishkin, William Scull and Osleys Iglesias both went on to fight for world titles,” Mathieu said. “So I sincerely hope the same thing happens for me, because I already feel ready to beat anyone in the world at 168 pounds.”

Stacked Quebec City Card

The October 8 event will feature an unusually deep lineup. Junior lightweight contender Leïla Beaudoin, who owns a 15-2 record with two knockouts, is scheduled to face Padraig McCrory. The Irishman, 20-2 with 10 knockouts, will return to competition after briefly stepping away from boxing.

Light-heavyweight contender Imam Khataev, meanwhile, will put his 12-1 record and 11 knockouts on the line against McCrory, while two-time Olympian Dzmitry Asanau will also compete. Asanau enters his bout with a perfect 13-0 record and seven knockouts against Montreal's unbeaten NABF champion Luis Santana, who is 16-0 with seven knockouts.

With multiple championships scheduled to be contested throughout the card, the event is being billed as one of the biggest boxing shows staged in Quebec in recent years.

“Historic is a term that is often overused in sports, but this time, the numbers speak for themselves: nine titles on the line at a single card in Quebec is simply unprecedented,” said Eye of the Tiger promoter Camille Estephan.

Estephan also highlighted the setting, describing the Capitole as a special venue for an event of this scale and emphasizing the opportunity for local fans to experience the action up close.

With Iglesias defending his IBF championship against an unbeaten, highly ranked challenger and a host of additional title fights on the card, October 8 promises to be a significant night for boxing in Quebec City.
